Zhuge Liang (181–234 CE), courtesy name Kongming and also known as Wolong (“Crouching Dragon”), was a renowned Chinese military strategist, politician, diplomat, inventor, and scholar during the Three Kingdoms period. He served as the Chancellor and regent of the state of Shu Han, playing a pivotal role in establishing and governing the kingdom under Liu Bei and his son Liu Shan. Famous for his strategic brilliance, Zhuge orchestrated key alliances and campaigns, including the Battle of Red Cliffs, and led five Northern Expeditions against Cao Wei. A polymath, he invented military technologies like the repeating crossbow and improved agricultural tools. His legacy endures in literature, particularly in “Romance of the Three Kingdoms,” symbolizing wisdom and loyalty.
